Beck

Beck had an incredibly productive 2005: he released a new album, toured the US, Europe, UK and Canada and wrote a soundtrack for a Jack Black movie (Nacho Libre). It seems 2006 is going to be just as busy with him wrapping up another album and now booking gigs as part of more touring. He just announced a show in August with Radiohead in Scotland.

A Beginning Celebrity

Everyone has to start somewhere and often the beginning is the roughest time because discouragement early on is hard to fight. If you have no track record of success then an unkind word can be devastating. But here is a story of a young woman who ignored the negative opinions of an art teacher and has just had her first professional exhibition: Years of hanging tough culminate in art exhibit.

Tom Cruise was right about Psychiatric Drugs

Last year Tom Cruise caused quite a stir amongst psychiatrists and drug companies when he said that psychiatric drugs, such as those prescribed for millions of children in America, were dangerous. At the time psychiatrists and other drug company mouthpieces tried to pretend it wasn't true but since Tom said his piece there has been a steady stream of announcements from the FDA about the dangerous side-effects of these drugs. The latest revelation comes from an FDA Advisory Panel which has recommended a "black box" warning be put on the labels of "ADHD" drugs such as Ritalin, Concerta, Methylin, Metadate, Adderall and Adderall XR.

And I think this quote from the article says it all: "When asked why he and his fellow advisers approved ... a recommendation they hadn't been asked to consider, Gross said: "No. 1, because of the seriousness of the side effects — the sudden deaths. No. 2, there is a sense maybe the diagnosis of ADHD is being applied where it shouldn't be applied." Just what Tom Cruise said last year!

My Wife Meets Kirstie Alley

My wife recently stepped into an elevator and there before her was Kirstie Alley. My wife (being a shy retiring type ... NOT) started chatting to her and told her how much she (Kirstie) had inspired her (my wife) to loose 25lbs. Kirstie was very please and very amused by my wife's rendition of her story of how "she and Kirstie" had been loosing weight together and it was about time Kirstie found out about this. My wife is quite a comedian herself.

James Barbour Get Excellent Review

The LA Times gave a great review of last Sunday's performance of "Camelot" at the Hollywood Bowl with a subtitle of "Jeremy Irons' King Arthur cedes musical honors to James Barbour's Lancelot." The reviewer also described James vocal work as , "gloriously resonant" and went on to say, "Loping across the stage with casual, athletic confidence, Barbour's Lancelot quickly established himself as head jock among the knights, and when the singer opened his rich, ringing bass-baritone to full power during 'If Ever I Would Leave You,' his amplified voice must have been audible even to the tourists down on Hollywood Boulevard."
