Some families have rules that they don't talk about religion or politics at the dinner table or at family gatherings. Good advice.
Recently Kirstie Alley declared her support for a particular candidate in the US Presidential race and was asked on twitter what candidate the Church of Scientology was backing. Her reply was "Probably the same as every other church on the planet....vote for whoever the hell you want to."
Just to be totally clear, the Church of Scientology is completely nonpolitical and non-ideological. Here is the official Church policy lain down by L. Ron Hubbard in 1965:
"I hereby declare Scientology to be nonpolitical and nonideological. ... Scientologists may be members of any political group on this planet without restraint ... Scientology is for a free people and is itself on this date declared free of any political connection or allegiance of any kind whatever.":I know Scientologists who are Republicans, Democrats, Independents and Libertarians. I know some who yawn about politics and some who get very passionate about it. I know Scientologists who are going to vote for Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and John Kasich (I don't know any who like Cruz, but that doesn't mean there aren't any) and I know some who don't intend to vote for any of them.
We are as varied as any other group of people and the Church itself stays out of it. As with the rules families have, I consider this a very good idea.
