Why Scientology is Good for Hollywood Architecture

I saw this little blurb in the news today. Thought it bares repeating:

"If you live where I do, in the actual city of Hollywood, just a few blocks away from where the Oscars are held, you see the Church of Scientology as somewhat of a savior. Within a two-mile corridor along Hollywood Boulevard, the Church owns eight historic buildings, four of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. In a neighborhood where architectural triumphs evaporate with little remorse, Scientology is the most ardent preservationist force in town." Alissa Walker on Design Observer.

That is certainly true of the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre. What a beautiful building, and they've done such a great job of renovating it, including the landscaping.

Breakfast in Paris with Tom Cruise

As everybody knows, the press would never print anything in the least bit inaccurate or that was (dare I say it) a fib (yeah right). However, anyone who has read any of the (forgive my French) crap that has been printed recently about Tom Cruise may be wondering who to believe. So here is a refreshing piece about two ladies who met Tom and his family in Paris. As one lady said, "He was extremely nice and very friendly. It’s hard to think about all those crazy things they say about him on the television, because he seemed like a completely different person." Dare I say it? Perhaps the media has been fibbing. Congratulations to Tom Cruise & the MI-3 Team

Not only did Mission Impossible III make more internationally in its debut weekend than both of the earlier MI movies, but it maintained its momentum this weekend to beat the new releases and stay at number 1 in the USA. Well done to Tom Cruise and the MI 3 team.

If you haven't seen the movie yet, I highly recommend it. It has a superb ensemble cast that includes a couple of new faces that I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of.

Size7Hat

Interesting name, huh? I'd guess it has something to do with the size of lead singer DeeDee O'Malley's head - just a guess. Size7Hat is a band formed by four Scientologists (all of whom I know - does that make me famous?) Anyway their first CD is out and can be bought at various locations such as www.cdbaby/cd/size7hat and Size7Hat at Tower Records.

There is a little tidbit about them at: Size7Hat. By-the-way, the cover for the CD ("The Outside") is brilliant.

Scientology Silent Birth, Again

The Church of Scientology blog
has a great article from the Washington post (and AP story that's actually running all over) about the imminent birth of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes baby:

LOS ANGELES Apr 12, 2006 (AP) Tom Cruise has been practically shouting from the rooftops about his love for his pregnant fiancee, Katie Holmes. But when their much-anticipated baby is born, the superstar dad probably won't say a word.

Cruise, a longtime Scientologist who introduced Holmes to the faith, is likely to follow Scientology's practice of quiet birth. Followers believe the absence of talk and other noise in the delivery room is more healthful for mother and baby.

No one's saying publicly where baby Cruise will enter the world, but if it is at the actor's Beverly Hills home then noise control might prove a challenge. Buzzing paparazzi are already camped aside the property.

With the little one expected soon, tabloids and gossip Web sites have been rife with chatter about silent birth, spawning much speculation about what it is and isn't.

Some are sure it means the mother can't make a peep during childbirth forget the popular image of a chaotic hospital-room scene with a laboring woman spewing invectives. Others have claimed silence must be maintained for a full week after the baby is born and that Scientology opposes medical exams for newborns.

According to the tenets of Scientology, known as Dianetics, words - even loving ones - spoken during birth and other painful times are recorded by the "reactive mind," or subconscious. Those memories, adherents feel, can eventually trigger problems for mother and child.

What the doctrine doesn't say is that labouring moms can't make some noise during delivery.

"We're not going for absolute silence," said self-professed "Scientology mom" Michelle Seward. "If a sound is made, that's OK."

After years studying the faith, established in 1950 by fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, Seward went the silent route for the birth of her son, Sage, five years ago.>> more

I'm very happy for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and I'm so glad that this is bringing the issue of silent birth to public notice.

L. Ron Hubbard discovered the importance of silent birth and made the information available in 1950. So it's hardly "new" but it sure is important.

Church Of Scientology International Answers Questions On Silent Birth

With the birth of the child of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes imminent I've seen mention in news articles about "silent birth". The articles I've seen so far have been inaccurate, which is not surprising when you consider the poor quality of news reporting these days and the obsession in the media to make everything sound controversial. In fact the quiet birth is ... simply a quiet birth. For full details read this article: Church Of Scientology International Answers Questions On Silent Birth. Also heard there is a new site silentbirth.org

Beck

Beck had an incredibly productive 2005: he released a new album, toured the US, Europe, UK and Canada and wrote a soundtrack for a Jack Black movie (Nacho Libre). It seems 2006 is going to be just as busy with him wrapping up another album and now booking gigs as part of more touring. He just announced a show in August with Radiohead in Scotland.

Everyone has to start somewhere and often the beginning is the roughest time because discouragement early on is hard to fight. Tom Cruise was right about Psychiatric Drugs

Last year Tom Cruise caused quite a stir amongst psychiatrists and drug companies when he said that psychiatric drugs, such as those prescribed for millions of children in America, were dangerous. At the time psychiatrists and other drug company mouthpieces tried to pretend it wasn't true but since Tom said his piece there has been a steady stream of announcements from the FDA about the dangerous side-effects of these drugs. The latest revelation comes from an FDA Advisory Panel which has recommended a "black box" warning be put on the labels of "ADHD" drugs such as Ritalin, Concerta, Methylin, Metadate, Adderall and Adderall XR.

And I think this quote from the article says it all: "When asked why he and his fellow advisers approved ... a recommendation they hadn't been asked to consider, Gross said: "No. 1, because of the seriousness of the side effects — the sudden deaths. No. 2, there is a sense maybe the diagnosis of ADHD is being applied where it shouldn't be applied." Just what Tom Cruise said last year!
