Chick Corea in Detroit with his "Freedom Band"

http://requesound.com/imagenes/chick-corea.jpg
Jazz piano great Chick Corea says that his "attention is always on the present and the future," but his current Freedom Band actually weaves together elements of the keyboardist's past.

Saxophonist Kenny Garrett, bassist Christian McBride and 85-year-old drummer Roy Haynes all played on Corea's 2000 album "Remembering Bud Powell," while Garrett and McBride were also part of Corea's recent Five Peace Band and Haynes also played on the "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs" album in 1968.

"It's just the sweetest environment for me," said Corea, 69, of the quartet. "It's just wonderful playing with these guys. We speak the same language, all of us, and it's like home ground.">>

Chick -- Just the Best. Period.

Great photo of Chick Corea. This man is such an icon. He churns out brilliant music. Last summer I got to hear a concert with Chick, Stanley Clarke (OMG) and Chaka Khan (double OMG--I had NO IDEA she's a jazz singer. Just knew she was the ultimate in R&B). It was a set to remember for a lifetime. Just wish they'd recorded it. And what did they play (among other numbers)? You guessed it -- My Spanish Heart. That has to be the highlight of a lifetime of incredibles.

The event was the anniversary of the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International in LA.

Chick Corea at the Scientology Charity Concert in East Grinstead

I can only dream what this concert was like. It was part of the annual benefit concert following (a day or so after) the Anniversary of the International Association of Scientologists. Can you imagine? Chick is a musical giant and that's Mark Isham on the horn--another real great. I saw both of them, jamming together in Hollywood a few months ago at the Celebrity Center Gala. Wish I could have been in England too. Not something you want to miss!

Chick Corea Back On Tour With Return To Forever!

Legendary musician, and Scientologist Chick Corea has reformed the band he founded in 1972, Return To Forever, and is back on the road with them after more than 25 years. Return To Forever are credited by many as being the first Jazz Fusion band, and for starting the whole genre! Fusion, as it's also called is a combo of jazz and rock, usually played by VERY skilled musicians. Every member of RTF absolutely shreds!

Along with Chick Corea, the RTF lineup includes music legends Stanley Clarke, Al Di Meola and Lenny White. If you are a jazz fusion fan, then you know darn well that this lineup is a gift from heaven man! Not to be missed! They just finished touring Europe and are now back touring in the U.S..
